Project Breakdown
How HECO Created a Unified Data Hub for Operational Efficiency
The Challenge
HECO helps industrial plants utilize more dependable motors and equipment. They struggled with maintaining multiple independent systems to run their operations. With disparate data and systems, their internal processes were manual, required double data entry, and difficult to report on.
HECO turned to SPARK as a local Michigan-based partner that fit their team’s culture and values.
During the Discovery phase, SPARK mapped out their current processes and defined what their desired future data flows should look like, which then determined the right data management solution for HECO.

The Solution
Working with the SPARK team, HECO developed a data lake, or centralized hub that pulls in their data from multiple systems through the use of APIs. It captures time entries, job details, and technicians’ schedules.
After launching the application, HECO was able to eliminate its double data entry and automate many of its processes. Their team also receives daily email alerts and updates to help track and verify the movement of their data.
Throughout the project, HECO appreciated the transparent and weekly updates from the SPARK team on progress. This allowed the project to be delivered on time and on budget as expected.
